Hello, I’m a geek! And I’m damn proud of it!
Some people would call me a nerd, but I’m definitely a geek.
(For non-nerds/geeks: Sheldon is a nerd, Leonard is a geek)
I’ve always been a geek. Even before it was „cool“ for non-geeks to dress like a geek (comic t-shirts and black horn-rimmed glasses) – also a form of cultural appropriation.
Even though the words geek and nerd didn’t exist in German when I was young in the 70s, the typecasting did. You were insulted, despised, shunned and bullied as a bespectacled snake, outsider, crazy eccentric, and so on. Not just from your own class, but from the whole school, the neighborhood kids, relatives, etc., so practically everyone. My parents and teachers were no help either, because there was no such thing as support for gifted children in the 70s/80s.
So my whole youth wasn’t exactly easy.
In 1983, I discovered home computers by chance and realized that I was damn good with computers. This interest helped me to survive that time and also made me what I am today.
These days I’m damn proud to be a freak! I enjoy living a completely different life to the normal people my (numerical) age! It’s also damn good to see on StayFriends and Facebook what a shitty life the bullies and snooty popular kids from back then lead today. I think I have a much better quality of life today in comparison.
With a very good and secure 9 to 5 job where I get paid as an IT Systems Engineer for what started as a very small untrodden hobby in 1983.
I live with my sweet little owl, who I love more than anything. I also feel physically and mentally younger and fitter today than when I was at school.

Bis hatte ich 10 Jahre lang noch zwei sehr große Hobbys: Con- & Event-Photographie und Cosplay.
Until 2019 , I had two very big hobbies for 10 years: con & event photography and cosplay.
I have been doing (D)SLR photography for several decades. Between 2008 and 2019 I specialized in Convention-, Cosplay-, LARP- and Event-Photography. During this time I was on the road as a photographer at many events in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Some of my pictures can be seen here under Photos, the rest will follow.
Through conventions and event photography, I also became interested in cosplay in 2011, especially because when you’re out and about as a photographer in cosplay, you have a completely different relationship with the models. You don’t get confused with those „I photograph cosplayers eating“ paparatizy or the „Cosplay IS Consent“ smartphone milksops.
In order to have good props for my costumes, I started reworking NERF’s visual effects, among other things. I also regularly exhibited my props at cons, where I also gave talks about Nerf modding.
